Thieves steal new truck from parking lot

Suspect casually drives by security in stolen truck.

WINCHESTER HILLS – When security officers at Winchester Green Shopping Centre saw the new truck passing by on Swartgoud Street, they became suspicious that something was amiss.

They were right to be concerned as Winchester Green Pick n Pay owner, Mr Waldo confirmed. The Hyundai H72 truck had been left in the owner’s parking spot when it was stolen at 12:00 on October 11.

“I had left the truck in my parking near the entrance when it was stolen. I was at home cutting grass when I received a call from security telling me that the truck had been stolen,” explained Winchester Green Pick n Pay owner, Mr Waldo.

Security officers proceeded to explain that they saw an unknown man driving past when they quickly rushed to Pick n Pay staff to find out if one of them had gone out with the truck. The answer was a stone cold no, and that was when they realised that the unknown driver had been a car thief.

Fortunately for the store owner, there was no stock in the truck and it was also insured. As it was still new, the truck had no number plates.

A case of car theft has been opened with Mondeor SAPS. The vehicle however, has not been recovered.

Mondeor Sector two Community Policing Forum has urged residents to be on the lookout for the vehicle. The engine no is DBE 559079 and the chassis number is KMEGA17BREC 246341.

A new Hyundai H72 is priced from R359 000.
