Someone, somewhere, somehow knows something about crime

At the September Domestic Watch meeting held at Sasol garage Columbine Avenue, Mondeor, a serious topic was discussed about how ordinary citizens can work with the police.

MONDEOR – Domestics and gardeners do know what is going on in their suburb. The police cannot properly work without informers. Many police stations have Detective Field Units. These officers work with the detectives and very often create profiles from the information supplied by informers; they also do identification, tracing and apprehension instead for example the original officer that has the connection to the informer.

There are numerous ways of passing on information to prevent crime from happening, to help to catch criminals before or after a crime incident or retrieving stolen goods.

Providing a tip to the police could prevent a crime or assist in catching a criminal. It could also be information in a suburb that could represent a problem area or a place where a possible crime could be taking place.

Any good citizen can become a registered and paid informer. You will meet with selected police officer/ registration handler who will explain all aspects of being a registered informer off police station’s premises and at a safe time and place to protect you. If you choose not to be a registered informer but find you have important information you can meet with your selected police officer to pass on the information and at that time you can request registration and get paid if the criminals are caught!

The handler/officer will always work towards getting you the highest amount possible from the State. SAPS are not obliged to pay anyone. The only police you will have contact with will be your Registration Officer to keep you safe.

Tips given to the police or a security company are like gold! You could choose to become a registered informer by contacting Penny SteynDomestic Watch and SAPS Customer Service Training 082 461 6968 or email:  psteyntraining@absamail.co.za alternatively contact Crime Line on SMS 32211, all information given is strictly confidential.

The next Mondeor Domestic Watch meeting will be held on Tuesday October 14 at 10:00. For more information phone Michelle Pelser 084 292 9144.
