Chicken kicked to death by Mondeor High School learners

Every year at most high schools, on what is called matric day, matric learners have fun before they start their prelims and go on to write their matric exams.

MONDEOR – This year the fun went way beyond a joke at Mondeor High School as a group of five learners kicked two chickens to death.

The chickens had been brought to the school by the learners and had apparently been carried around in their school bags for two hours before being used as rugby balls.

It’s alleged one of the chicken’s feet had been tied as the school boys kicked it to death and afterwards the matric learners allegedly carried the two dead chickens to frighten other learners.

The learners who behaved in this despicable manner and their parents were invited to disciplinary hearings this past weekend.

An article which appeared in The Star allegedly said the school principal, Mrs Nicolaou, had used a racist remark when she said the learners who behaved badly had blackened the school’s name.

“This is grossly unfair. This is not a racist remark but a term which means tarnishing or damaging the reputation of the school. It has been misconstrued and taken out of context,” said a community member.

“We need to speak out against this type of persecution. Our education system is in a crisis, and media are attacking the teachers, if our youth are not focused and moving forward our nation will not move forward either.”
