Man’s life put on hold without an ID
Randy said his life is almost on hold, because he doesn’t know where to go for help.
SOUTH HILLS – It has been almost two years since Randy Williams (Wankra) from South Hills applied for an ID at Alberton Home Affairs.
After he lost his ID in 2012, he went to Home Affairs to make a new one and to change his surname. He was told it would cost him R325 to change from Wankra to Williams, plus an additional R140 for the new ID.
“I went on to do the ID on December 6 and I paid R465 in total and I got the acknowledgement of receipt,” said Randy.
He waited for months for his new ID, however it didn’t come. He went back to Home Affairs, and there was nothing on the system that showed he applied for the ID.
“I even went to Home Affairs in Johannesburg. There they told me I didn’t pay and that’s why my name is not in the system. I was informed to go back to Alberton and sort out this problem. In July last year I lodged a complaint there (Case number: 1307013549) but I still don’t have the ID. I married my wife, Dorothy, last year without an ID. We are expecting a baby now and there will be problems again, also jobs are passing me by because of this problem,” explained Mr Williams.
He said his life is almost on hold, because he doesn’t know where to go for help.
