New boat models on display at Boat Show

Add to the thrilling display of boats, marine engines and boating accessories a hall dedicated to the dive fraternity and a number of fishing equipment exhibits, the 2014 Johannesburg Boat Show promises visitors a memorable experience and an opportunity to plan their summer watersport season.

A host of new boats and marine engine technology will be on display for the first time in South Africa at the 2014 Johannesburg Boat Show at the Johannesburg Expo Centre this weekend. One of the crowd pleasers will be the spectacular Seabreacher submersible craft, which makes its debut appearance at the Show.

Visitors can enjoy an extensive programme of workshops and master classes catering for all watersport enthusiasts. The SAMSA daily workshop programme puts the focus on safety on the waterways, while the Angling Master Class programme provides an opportunity to brush up on skills and techniques. Dive enthusiasts are also catered for with an informative and entertaining programme of guest speakers on Saturday and Sunday.

The Show features a number of activations to get the excitement going. Wakeboarding and flyboarding demonstrations on the Lake will thrill visitors, while for those of a more contemplative nature fishing and casting demonstrations on the lake will help them refine their technique.

Several companies will be unveiling their new models at this year’s show. Newcomers to this year’s show, Magson Marine, are getting into the spirit of things offering a whopping R150 000 discount to one show visitor on their new Titan 300 Express Cabin, which aims to satisfy the serious sports angler while still maintaining comfort for the family.

The Johannesburg Boat Show, which is co-located with the AMID Motorcycle Show and Outdoor Lifestyle Show for the third successive year, runs from Friday August 8 to Sunday August 10. This means visitors can visit three shows for the price of one. Tickets are available from the Expo Centre gates or from Computicket. Prices are R80 for adults, R40 for visitors between 12 and 16, while those under 12 are admitted free.

Show Director Philip Otto says that he is particularly pleased with the support for the third Johannesburg Boat Show, with a wide range of boats, marine engines and watersport equipment on display.

Friday morning’s programme sees no fewer than ten new boat and marine engine launches. Kicking off proceedings will be South African manufacturer Twin Boats, launching the new 23-foot Sensation Cabrito. Also expected to attract huge interest will be their stunning new joystick system, the Optimus. The system enables boat pilots to dock any boat fitted with dual engines moving the boat in any direction – fore, port, starboard and aft – to enable precise docking without the need for mooring lines.

Randburg-based Waterworld is launching its newest Mastercraft Boats, notably the Mastercraft X46. This boat along with other new Mastercraft boats will feature its new Gen-2 Surf System for wake surfing. In addition Waterworld will launch two new locally-built boats, the Funster 18 and the Odyssey 650 Wake edition.

The Malibu 22MXZ and 23LSV Wakesetters will wow the crowds visiting the Boating International stand. These beautiful boats form part of a massive display by the Edenvale-based boating experts. Also expected to draw huge attention will be the 2015 Axis A24 and T22.

Two impressive boats will form the centrepiece of Leisure Marine’s new-model launch programme at the Show. The 2015 Moomba Mondo is a 20,5-foot boat fitted with a potent Ford Raptor 6,2-litre motor and is capable of world-class wakes. The 2015 Supra SC is a beautiful tour boat also capable of delivering huge wakes, but tailored towards a luxury ride for the occupants.

Other manufacturers launching new boats on show include Tige Boats, Z-Craft, Natal Caravans and Marine and Broderick Marine.

Not to be outshone, the marine engine manufacturers are also displaying a host of new technology.

Suzuki are launching their new DF30A outboard engine. This much-awaited engine weighs just 71kg and is rated as the lightest in its class. In addition, the engine features battery-less fuel injection and an extremely light action recoil starting system. Apart from this new three-cylinder 490cm3 engine Suzuki are also promoting their new warranties on recreational outboard engines.

Yamaha are launching the new F115B Outboard engine. This is a long-awaited update to the very successful F115 outboard motor, which has been in production for a number of years. The new engine is some 14kg lighter than its predecessor and features improved acceleration and economy and excellent low-speed charging. Yamaha are also launching the Seacat 510 blast at the show.

Marine engine manufacturer Mercury commemorates a milestone at the Show celebrating its 75th anniversary, and will take the time to reflect on its strong heritage of innovation and leadership in the marine industry at the Johannesburg Boat Show.
