Blankets make the winter warmer for orphans

THE winter is now much warmer for orphans after Momentum and Sesli Blankets teamed up with Irene Homes for the Mentally Disabled and provided blankets for them.

The big goal was to knit enough blankets to cover a cricket ground! It was ambitious, and to help, local blanket manufacturer, Sesli Blankets, matched every completed, knitted blanket with a donated one.

To kick off this initiative, a knit-a-thon was hosted at Momentum’s head office in Centurion earlier this month, where they invited players from the Unlimited Titans, the Momentum Protea women’s cricket team, and staff to get behind this great cause by getting their needles knitting.

Thanks to a collective effort, on the day they ended up with a sea of blankets covering the Johannesburg Cricket Club pitch. The official handover took place to three very deserving charities: Dove Nest Place of Safety, Sisters of Mercy Winterveld and Growing Wise.

Charlene Lackay, Head of External Communications and CSI Momentum Corporate said, “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported this deserving campaign. It was a generous display of time and effort by everyone who took part. Our collective efforts will go a long way to keep vulnerable children warm this winter.”
