Scam agency targeting nursing candidates

The text message claims that the application has been successful and the recipient has to pay R150 as an administration fee.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – The Gauteng Department of Health would like to warn members of the public about a scam run by a recruitment agency.

The agency is allegedly sending text messages, demanding money from those who applied to study nursing at the province’s colleges.

The text message claims that the application has been successful and the recipient has to pay R150 as an administration fee.

The department is calling on all those applicants not to pay anyone to secure space at any of our nursing colleges, as no cost is involved in the recruitment process.

“The applications closed on Friday May 2, and the selection process, which involves the shortlisting of candidates, psychometric test and interview, is currently under way and those selected will be called to participate,” said spokesperson Simon Zwane.

He added that those successful will only be informed in November 2014, and even then they will bear no costs.

“I encourage victims of this scam to report the matter to the police so the allegations can be thoroughly investigated and the culprits brought to book. Complaints can also be submitted through our 24 hour call centre at 0860 011 000,” said Zwane.
