Lions field strong side against Rebels

Lions head coach Johan Ackermann has named his 23-man side to take on the Rebels. The match will take place at Ellis Park on Friday July 4.

“I could choose any player I would like for the match against the Rebels,” said Head coach of the Lions, Johann Ackerman. “All the players have recovered from their injuries, thus the strongest team will be fielded.”

Lions head coach Johan Ackermann has named his 23-man side to take on the Rebels. The match will take place at Ellis Park on Friday July 4. Kick-off is at 19:10.

“I am glad that Franco van der Merwe is back from his injury so that he has the opportunity to play for us in his last two Super Rugby games.”

In the forwards Ackermann has opted largely for consistency, selecting the same front row and loose trio that faced the Bulls before the June Test break.

The only change in the forwards sees Springbok lock Franco van der Merwe return to action, having fully recovered from his ankle injury.

Meanwhile, in the backline, Anthony Volmink will start at left wing, while Deon van Rensburg covers the right wing berth.

“It will be a special game against the Rebels, as they are an unpredictable side. We want to end our season well and this is a good opportunity to show what we have built this season,” said Lions captain Warren Whiteley.
