Prayer for missing girls

Mrs Blessing, who teaches Maths grade 10 to 12, said she was very humbled by the support the school has shown.

THE HILL – The Hill High School was led in prayer by their Nigerian Mathematics teacher, Alloziem Blessing, on the campaign # BringBackOurGirls at the school hall on Wednesday morning, May 21.

Almost everyone but the Boko Haram is praying for the safe return of the girls. On the night of April 14, about 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria. The kidnappings were claimed by Boko Haram, an Islamic Jihadist and Takfiri terrorist organisation based in northeast Nigeria.

Mrs Blessing, who teaches Maths for grades 10 to 12, said she was very humbled by the support the school has shown. “This is a symbolic day for all of us, the teachers and learners are absolutely supportive. I’ve been praying to God for their safe return. I would like to thank everyone for heeding this call. This is a bit strange, however Africa still believes women are nothing. These girls, who are between 16 and 18 years old, were writing physical Science examination when this happened. These people believe girls need not to be educated, they see them as people who can cook and be sex slaves,” explained Alloziem Blessing, who is from Delta State in the southern part of Nigeria.

She emphasised the importance of the future of young girl in Africa. “I want to encourage every young girl that they can be whatever they want in life. We all need to be grateful, because other people didn’t have the opportunities we have. The spirit of praying need to continue as these kidnapped girls are helpless, their parents devastated. However, I know God is with them,” she said.

Learners shared the stage to pass their messages of comfort, hope and willingness to do something about the situation.

Ms Nyabeni also mentioned that they lit candles as a symbol of light. She also said they will submit a petition to District 11 to ask them to take action with this problem.
