Awards for Kaizer Chiefs stars

Kaizer Chiefs gave awards to their players for their efforts during the 2013/2014 season.

KAIZER Chiefs took the night off to honour their players for their efforts during the season.

It was a glamorous affair on Wednesday May 21 when the local Premier Soccer League club, Kaizer Chiefs, paid tribute to their stars of the 2013/2014 season.

“The club had a good season going through a tough one, having played as many games as they did,” said Head coach Stuart Baxter. “We had a good season, but not a great one. Though we didn’t win any big trophy, we still played and enjoyed good soccer.”

Willard Katsande was the big winner of the evening. Amakhosi, midfielder, won an array of prizes, which included various categories: Players’ Player of the Season, May Player of the Month, Fan Player of the Season and Online Player of the Season and the big one, Player of the Season awards. He pocketed R230 000 in total prize-money after taking home most of the Awards.

Following hot on the heels of Katsande were other multiple winners, Erick Mathoho and Knowledge Musona.

Online Player of the Season: Willard Katsande (R20 000)

Fan Player of the Season: Willard Katsande (R50 000)

Goal of the Season: Knowledge Musona (R20 000)

Top Goalscorer: Knowledge Musona (R40 000) for his 16 goals in all competitions

Most Improved Player of the Season: Mulomowandau Mathoho (R25 000)

Players’ Player of the Season: Willard Katsande (R50 000)

Player of the Season: Willard Katsande (R100 000 and a Nissan Z37C sponsored car)

Player of the Month awards (R10 000 for each month)

September 2013/March 2014: Knowledge Musona

November 2013/February 2014: Bernard Parker

December 2013: Siyabonga Nkosi

January 2014/April 2014: Tefu Mashamaite

May 2014: Willard Katsande

The Executive Chairman Kaizer Motaung presented the Chairman’ Special Award to the legendary Sylvester Kole. “Sylvester will remain a big part of the Club,” said Motaung.

The Chairman’s Award went to another legend, Lucky Stylianou. The occasion matched the status of the Club in terms of glamour, with entertainment and fun bringing down the 2013/14 PSL season curtain in style for the Amakhosi.
