Maud (103) passes away

Maud Milne, one of the oldest and most beloved residents of the Southern Suburbs passed away peacefully at the age of 103 in the early hours of Sunday April 13. Maud still lived in her home in Crown Gardens until her passing.

SOUTH OF JOHANNESBURG – “She will be remembered as someone active, energetic and outspoken almost until her last days,” said her dear friend, Franca Rosso.

Born in 1910, Maud was very sprightly and quite capable, right up until about a month before she died.

When the CHRONICLE interviewed her on her 103rd birthday on October 22 2103, she said, “I’m delighted to still be able to look after my home, cook and get about, with a little help from my friends.”

Her 103rd birthday was celebrated with a family gathering at Saint John Boscoe. She was a parishioner there for close on 60 years and told the CHRONICLE, “With God’s help we can do anything and he knows just what we need.”

Maud had four children, two sons and two daughters but only one son is surviving. She also has 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

When she was asked at her 103rd birthday what kept her going, she said, “Enjoying my life and appreciating everything. I’m very thankful to everyone for what they’ve done for me over the years and I’m lucky to have such good friends as well as Emilene my domestic. Life is good and I enjoy each and every day.”

Caxton South sends its sincere condolences to Maud’s family and friends.
