Faraday Taxi Association held memorial for slain chairperson

Community mourns the death of FTA Chairperson Snothi Xaba.

A memorial ceremony was held at St Patrick’s Church in La Rochelle on September 19 for slain Faraday Taxi Association chairperson Snothi Xaba.

Xaba was shot and killed on September 16. The reason for the shooting is still unknown. The memorial service was attended by SAPS and JMPD as well as members of the Gauteng National Taxi Association.

All attendees came to pay their respects to a key member of the community and a cherished figure in the taxi fraternity.

Colonel Mothobi Moletsane of the JMPD spoke about Xaba’s influence and the large-scale violence in the south of Johannesburg.

“Xaba was responsible for a lot of taxi business and employed many people in the community, aiding in both their personal growth and the development of the areas in which he operated.

“Before becoming chairperson, he was involved in taxi reform in terms of better pricing for citizens in SA and also to quell the violence that is associated with taxi wars,” said Moletsane.

“As JMPD we are always trying to prevent taxi violence. We will continue to do so as we are losing important fathers and sons.”

Reverend Xobiso Socatcha also spoke about Xaba as an influential figure and that he passed on suddenly and in a tragic manner. “We give thanks to God and ask that Snothi is taken into heaven as he helped many people.

Violence in this manner is unacceptable and we hope that the culprits are found and dealt with accordingly.”
Xaba’s funeral will take place in Durban this weekend.
