15 years behind bars for house burglary with intent to rob and robbery

Mathonsi pleaded not guilty on May 7 when his trial started.

Magistrate Habib sentenced Michael Mathonsi to 15 years’ imprisonment for house burglary, with intent to rob and robbery at Booysens Magistrate’s Court on June 4.

The magistrate also declared Mathonsi unfit to possess a firearm.

Mathonsi pleaded not guilty on May 7 when his trial started.

The court found Mathonsi unlawfully and intentionally on January 25, 2022, entered a house in the Oakdene area with the intent to rob.

He assaulted the occupant of the house, and with force, took a Samsung A7 cellphone and jewellery box.
