JMPD arrests driver with unlicensed firearm

JMPD officers conducted a stop and search on Swartkoppies and Kliprivier roads in Johannesburg south, and while conducting the operation, they observed a motorist pass a traffic light and stopped it, discovering an unlicensed firearm.

JMPD officers from Region F2 recently conducted a crime prevention stop and search operation at Swartkoppies and Kliprivier roads in Johannesburg south.

Spokesperson of JMPD Superintendent Xolani Fihla said during the operation, they observed a vehicle disregarding a red traffic light.

“The officers stopped the vehicle and conducted a thorough search. They discovered an unlicensed firearm. The driver of the vehicle was promptly arrested and taken into custody at Mondeor SAPS.

“This incident underscores the importance of adhering to traffic laws and regulations. Jumping a red traffic light is a serious offence that not only puts the driver at risk but also endangers other road users.

“The presence of an unlicensed firearm in the vehicle adds a layer of danger to the situation, highlighting the potential for violent crimes.

“The arrest serves as a reminder to all residents and visitors in Joburg South to respect traffic laws and regulations.

It also emphasizes the importance of reporting any suspicious activities or individuals to the police. Together, we can work towards a safer and more secure community,” said Fihla.
