JMPD cracks down on motorists driving under the influence

The JMPD has taken a strong stance against drunk driving, apprehending 193 motorists for driving under the influence between March 4 and 10.

JMPD apprehended 193 motorists for driving under the influence (DUI) between March 4 and 10.

JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla said driving under the influence of alcohol is a severe offence that endangers the driver’s life and poses significant risks to other road users.

“We are actively working to prevent accidents, injuries, and fatalities caused by impaired driving by enforcing strict measures against DUI offenders.

“Driving under the influence impairs judgment, co-ordination, and reaction time, making it a significant road hazard. The consequences of DUI can be devastating, leading to tragic outcomes for individuals and families.

“The Joburg Road Safety initiative underscores the importance of responsible driving and the need for all motorists to adhere to the traffic laws. By promoting awareness and taking decisive enforcement actions like these arrests, we play a crucial role in creating a safer environment for everyone on Joburg’s roads,” said Fihla.
