Youngsters battling it out for coveted trophy

Action at the SAFA u.17 championship.

TWELVE teams, nine provincial sides and three Premier Soccer League sides, will battle it out for the national u.17 crown.

The SAFA u.17 Championship is making a welcome return after four years. The tournament will be graced by national selectors, Molefi Ntseki (Bloemfontein), Shawn Bishop (Gauteng) and Maqsood Chenia, the former National u.20 team Head Coach. The three will be there to identify the future stars and make sure that talent is not lost.

The three PSL sides are Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits together with the provincial sides.

Nine provincial teams will compete in each category at the tournaments, the first of which takes place at the end of March 2014. Ultimately, the provincial selectors will identify a team in each category to participate at international level. From these players, SAFA will be able to select future Bafana Bafana players

“Once again, I would like to thank our new partners Grand Parade Investments for coming on board to look after this critical space of our football development,” said SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan.

“It is from investing in these youngsters that we will reap big rewards in the future. This is one tournament not to be missed and where future stars are born,” added the SAFA President.
