A gesture of compassion on World Sheriff’s Day

It was a day of unit and compassion as Sherif June Thomas and Pastor Jack Chirwa joined forces to organise a Celebration Service and provide essential supplies to residents of Yellow Mountain Informal Settlement in Southdale.

In honour of World Sheriff Day, Sherif June Thomas from the Johannesburg South Office and Germiston North joined forces with pastor Jack Chirwa to provide food parcels and blankets to over 150 residents of Yellow Mountain informal settlement in Southdale.

Chirwa is the senior pastor of the Full Gospel Church of God Johannesburg South.

The collaboration between the Sheriff’s office and the Full Gospel Church members demonstrated the power of unity and the impact it can have on a community in need.

According to Chirwa, the decision to provide food and blankets stems from a deep understanding of the responsibility to not only nourish the soul with the word of God but also to address the physical needs of individuals.

World Sheriff Day was a day of compassion at Southdale.

This compassionate act resonates with the teachings of Jesus, as stated in Matthew 25:35, which says, “For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited me in”.

“The significance of this act of kindness goes beyond the distribution of food and blankets. It symbolizes the commitment of individuals and organizations to make a positive impact in their community. It serves as a reminder that we all have a role to play in addressing the pressing issue of hunger and homelessness,” said Chirwa.

The residents of Yellow Mountain were not only recipients of physical sustenance but also experienced overwhelming joy and gratitude.
