The SAPS appreciated the public for their contribution to combat crime.

Johannesburg Flying Squad members arrested 11 suspects in Johannesburg and recovered three unlicensed firearms and four stolen vehicles between August 4 and 7.

They arrested seven for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, three for possession of suspected stolen and hijacked vehicles and one for using a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Three firearms, a 9mm Norinco and two 38 specials revolvers with the serial number filed off were booked at the Jeppe SAPS.

The vehicles recovered included a hijacked grey VW Polo, a white Toyota Rav 4, a white Nissan NP200 and a white Toyota Corolla, all stolen.

The flying squad’s communication officer, Raymond Sambo, said investigations are ongoing and working with the community led to these recoveries.

“The SAPS appreciates the public for their contribution. One can contact the relevant detective and quote the case number if anyone has information about the vehicles.

“Eleven suspects aged between 19 and 27 appeared at different magistrate’s courts facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunitions, possession of suspected stolen and hijacked vehicles and use of a vehicle without the owner’s consent,” he said.
