Duo help community with food and safety

More volunteers are needed to help uplift the community of Turffontein.

Two men with big hearts joined hands to uplift the community of Turffontein and the surrounding areas.

Paul Kamanga and Jason JJ Naicker took it upon themselves to help their community, especially young boys.

Kamanga is a well-known boxer in the South with several titles to his name – two WBA Pan African Super Lightweight, two WBA Pan African Welterweight, and Kamanga is a former WBC Super Lightweight International champion.

Naicker owns JJ’s Automotive Supplies on Tramway Street.

As fate would have it, they met when Kamanga fixed his car at Naicker’s place. It turned out they both did charitable work.

“One day, while my car was at JJ’s Automotive Supplies, I told Jason I needed to deliver food parcels to some families in the area. We then realised we helped people with food. That’s when we partnered,” noted Kamanga.

He said NGL Logistics was a company that agreed to help five families for the next few months.

“Charity is close to my heart and is why I use my company, King Kamanga Boxing, to give back to the community when I train youngsters,” he said.

Naicker said all they wanted was to uplift their community.

“Drugs have ravaged our area. We do this so the youngsters have something to do and keep their minds occupied with positive things. We also have a patrolling team and need more volunteers and contributions. Crime is high.

Women are attacked and assaulted at night and in the early morning because they use public transport to get to work.

“On Saturdays, we prepare 500 hotdogs for the community at our premises. We want to assist those who are battling in life. We want to increase the number of people we help. Besides this, we also help an orphanage in Regents Park, children from Christway Religious and Social Services here in Turffontein,” he said.
