Alberton SAPS debunks trending message warning of a possible protest

Alberton SAPS has debunked a message spreading panic and warning of a possible national protest by South African police officers claimed to take place on March 17.

Alberton SAPS has distanced itself from a message spreading panic on social media platforms warning of a possible strike by SAPS members on March 17.

The message, which is seemingly complied by a ‘Colonel Michiel Strydom’, advises the public to prepare because ‘they will not enjoy any protection’ from the South African police.

Captain Manare Ramotshela of Alberton SAPS stressed their role is to prevent crime in the community.

“Our station commander wanted us to let people know that the police in Alberton are working. We don’t know the colonel who wrote that article. The only role of the police will be crime prevention, not as one of the protesters,” he said.
