Quick response to positive information received from the community leads to arrest

Booysens Police appreciate the working relationship with the community.

Booysens police arrested three suspects along Bellavista Road for cable theft on January 23.

Spokesperson Captain Lorraine van Emmerik said the members of the Infrastructure Task Team on the day were tasked to do patrols in the Booysens, Mondeor and Moffatview area.

At about 15:55 the members received information from the community of suspicious activities taking place in Bellavista Road of a bakkie off-loading cables at a private residence.

“The members investigated. They approached the three suspects, who failed to provide proof to why they had the cables in their possession. The suspects were placed under arrest and brought to Booysens SAPS,” she said.

Equipment used to dig up the cables.

Brigadier Hennie Jones thanked Sergeant Vincent Maseko, Sergeant Judith Thopola and Constable Innocent Leseme for their good work.

“There has been an increase in cable theft in the area. The dedication shown by the community and members is proof that we are working together to fight this crime.”
