WATCH: Alberton Methodist Church hosts 2022 final Young at Hearts event

To close off the Young at Hearts programme for the year 2022, Alberton Methodist Church invited Luke Powell to keep the Young at Hearts purpose alive on November 16.

To celebrate both Christmas and Young at Hearts year-end function, the Alberton Methodist Church celebrated seniors through old Christmas jams on November 16.

Musician Luke Powell led the celebration as he took more than 100 attendees on a trip down memory lane to earlier times and how Christmas should be celebrated.

According to Luke, he felt the need to celebrate with the seniors because it was a day that was set to honour the love, warmth, joy and generosity of people who built into who young people are today.

“Seniors have a wealth of life experience and they can offer us valuable lessons about accepting change and overcoming challenges. They have a vast amount of knowledge and wisdom to teach us. That is why we need to celebrate moments that mean the world to them, with them,” said Luke.

Young at Hearts is an event that aims to give senior citizens the time of their life by regularly bringing them together.

A committee member for the Young at Hearts, Sandra Human, emphasised the value of being kind to one another, particularly when you can support someone financially, emotionally, physically, spiritually, or otherwise.

Sandra claimed the gathering was held to encourage elders to celebrate Christmas and to remind themselves of their younger days, allowing them to reconnect with old friends.

“The elderly must be given attention and their happiness must always be prioritised. Making time for the elderly and ensuring their happiness is crucial. This assures them that we are still passionate about and love them,” Sandra explained.

The Alberton Methodist Church wished everyone a happy December holiday and advised that everyone should take care of their well-being and safety this season.

The elders enjoyed a sumptuous meal to cap off the occasion.
