Take heed and stay aware

On Monday afternoon, March 24 all the shops at Winchester Green Shopping Centre were visited by two women claiming to be from the Department of Labour.

SUIDEROORD – According to Yvette Diedricks, from Yola Boutique, “They did not have any identification, but wore black T-shirts with Department of Labour on it. The one woman’s name was Margaret.

“They came into our shop and asked to do an inspection to see if we had displayed the Basic Conditions of Employment Act poster. They told me if we don’t have it we can buy a poster from them for R750, otherwise they will send an inspector to the shop to impose a R2 000 fine for not displaying the posters.

“I made contact with the Department and they informed me that by law, we are required to display these posters as businesses, but we can obtain the said posters from: Government Printing Works, Masada Building, 196 Paul Kruger Street, Central Pretoria, 012 334 4507/8/9 at a cost of R30 for the complete set of posters.”

Diedricks said she also contacted Mr Ian Macun’s office (Director of Collective Bargaining). “He confirmed that we as businesses should not get these posters right now, because the new amendments have not been signed off yet.

“Businesses should be aware and not get caught out,” she added.
