Your help has been invaluable

I would like to thank our councillor, Paul Smit, in helping to resolve my mother's COJ electricity billing account.

Paul has consistently been helpful in trying to resolve the problem, and has always kept us updated. My mother’s incorrect electricity billing account has been ongoing for four years.

In February 2010, COJ changed their Venus billing system to the present one. My mother’s ccount was automatically billed by over R26 000. I called COJ to advise them of the mistake and I was given a reference number. The person I spoke to, advised us to continue paying the
bill as this was a migration problem from the Venus system to the new system. My mother continued to pay.  I was given reference numbers every time I called COJ and the account was never corrected.

Two years later, on my mother’s account, the single phase meter was substituted with three times single phase meters which she does not have, none of whose serial numbers corresponded with her existing electricity meter.

We firstly had the Venus system problem that needed to be resolved, and then the three phase meters became the next problem. Needless to say, my mother had many sleepless nights!

I called COJ on multiple occasions and was given reference numbers every time. I had to take time off work to go to Region 9 to hand in letters, and on numerous occasions, I had to go to Braamfontein with my elderly mother who struggles to walk. She was very stressed with this account!

I then contacted Paul Smit, and he has been very helpful in trying to resolve this ongoing saga.

Thankfully, this month, my mother’s account has finally been corrected.  Thank you Paul, you have been wonderful!
