TURFFONTEIN  – Two children were injured on Sunday March 16 when a vehicle travelling on Stamford Road, Turffontein swerved off the road and onto the pavement.

The children, a six-year-old boy and his young sister, were walking with their grandmother when the car came towards them. According to witnesses on the scene the boy noticed the car before the other two, and tried to push his grandmother and sister to safety.

ER24’s Russel Meiring said paramedics feared the worst, but were relieved to find the children had suffered only minor bumps and bruises in the accident.

“Witnesses on the scene said that the light motor vehicle had apparently tried to overtake in oncoming traffic, before swerving onto the pavement and colliding with the children,” said Meiring.

Both children were transported to Baragwanath hospital for further treatment.
