A system which causes stress and aggravation

The rates sytem is in a mess. What do you think?

Regarding the unfortunate senior citizen, Maud Milne, being requested to pay for rates, I was under the impression that persons over 70 years of age did not pay rates, unless perhaps it is for previous monies outstanding.

Nevertheless, as previous letters in the newspapers bear witness, it is a well-known fact that the rates system is still in a mess and I have been struggling for over four years to get a credit as have countless of other senior citizens and the way we have been sent pillar to post with very little results is completely unacceptable!

A system which is supposed to bring relief to the elderly has in fact, to a large extent, caused nothing more than stress and aggravation in trying to access it.

In light of the foregoing, the article appearing in the Star, January 31, titled, Joburg sitting pretty despite criticism, in which a statement appears to the effect that they have broken the back of the billing problems is therefore, in my view, very much open to dispute.
