DJ Maphorisa survives shooting in Katlehong

A case of attempted murder has been opened with Katlehong North SAPS after popular hit-maker DJ Maphorisa alongside others was attacked on the night of February 8.

Reports suggested DJ Maphorisa, whose real name is Themba Sekowe, was with Kabelo Motha, who is known as Kabza De Small, on the night of the attack.

On their way from a show at Biblos Café, Maphorisa and four others, who have reportedly been traveling in a Mercedes-Benz tour bus, were approached by a car when the occupants started firing at them.

This was confirmed by Capt Lesetja Mathobela of Katlehong North SAPS, who said the motive for the shooting is still not known.

“As the group stopped at a traffic light on Sontonga Road and Nato Street, a silver Audi A4 approached their car and the occupants started shooting at them. From the group, one was shot in the thigh while the other one was seriously injured with a shot to the chest. We don’t know why this happened, it could have been enemies,” he said.

Mathobela told the RECORD one of the severely injured during the attack is hospitalised at the Netcare Union Hospital.
