Community meeting about electricity hijacked in Naturena

Who will give lectures to City Power about the open cable that has been lying open for many months, posing danger to law-abiding citizens?

NATURENA – A community meeting that was supposed to address an electricity crisis in Naturena, allegedly the ANC PR Councillor Nhlanhla Mthembu, was hijacked to become a political campaign.

According to sources close to the COURIER she left members of the community in a state of panic, who questioned the credibility of the meeting on Saturday February 1 at Naturena Primary.

Members of the community told the COURIER that some weeks ago the City Power cut electricity that was illegally connected in certain areas in Naturena.

So they arranged a meeting with the ANC Ward 119 PR Councillor Nhlanhla Mthembu to invite the City Power to attend and address the community.

One of the concerned residents, Aunty Busi Ditsi, said; “All of a sudden the meeting with the City Power was no longer about the meters, which were taken away leaving many residents without electricity.

“The meeting was now all about an electricity awareness campaign, an agreement arranged behind closed doors by the ANC and the City Power that actually surprised us as we are in a serious crisis,” she said.

The meeting caused a public outcry, and many questions were left unanswered as City Power Eric Pharatlha continued his presentation, telling people to buy geyser blankets and to make sure they paid.

The PR Councillor denied all allegations levelled against her; instead she said that people were aware of the City Power electricity workshop.

“The gathering was about the electricity awareness in our Naturena area so I invited everyone to come and listen,” she said.

Meanwhile, in Malta Street, an electricity cable has been lying open for the past four months, and the PR Councillor resides only a few meters away from Malta.
