WATCH: Farewell gala dinner at The Hill High School

Ntethelelo Madubaduba (teacher) and the school’s RCL organised the event.

The Hill High School held their farewell gala dinner and award ceremony for the Grade 12s on November 3.

Ntethelelo Madubaduba (teacher) and the school’s RCL organised the event. It took them one week to put everything together.

Because of Covid-19, a lot of school activities were curtailed. Madubaduba, however, decided it was worth the effort to give the matrics a proper farewell and to motivate them for their final exams.

Melissa Modiba, RCL member, said this year has definitely been one for the books.

“It has broken boundaries, redefined normal and pushed us all to go above and beyond, even further than we ever knew we could go. Each and every one of us have woken up every morning and braved the storm called Covid-19 with masks, sanitisers and our fighting spirits as our only defences.

“From missing out on months of school, to forfeiting customary events such as Heritage Day, valedictory and even the matric dance. We’ve done it all and experience our final year of high school in a way it has never been experienced before. Now, here we are, gathered in this hall about to experience yet another iconic event.

“The first all-inclusive matric award ceremony. Slightly different to what we’re used to, but just as prestigious. Dedicated to the extraordinary Class of 2020,” explained Modiba.

Principal Sean Marques said he appreciated what the Grade 12s have done and wish them well in their exams.
