Bugsy Malone celebrates 30 years

The staff at Bugsy work hard to continue the legacy of success and it’s important to them that they build strong relationships with parents, children, colleagues as well as community partners.

Bugsy Malone opened its doors in 1990 and turning 30 years old has been a major milestone for them.

Its principal, Belinda Gebhardt, said they pride themselves that they have always been consistent, continual and adaptive. “Even more so now that we have had to adapt, change the classroom layouts, implement testing stations and reduce the learner numbers drastically, all to ensure the safety of our children once they can return to Bugsy, their home away from home.

“In line with the South African Government guidance on return to school protocol, we are delighted to announce we are ready.

“We pride ourselves that we offer quality education, but we also prepare our little ones to live and work in a diverse society with self-confidence and life skills, such as curiosity, risk-taking and exploration, in hope it will remain with each child forever,” she said.

The staff at Bugsy work hard to continue the legacy of success and it’s important to them that they build strong relationships with parents, children, colleagues as well as community partners, such as Meals on Wheels, Doctors Without Borders, Sea Rescue that look after the vulnerable ocean and last but not the least Joseph from Family Ministry that provide many meals to those who are less fortunate.

“We normally have a beautiful concert and this year would’ve been extra special to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We will just have to postpone it until next year and then have a spectacular affair. We offer computers, dancing, soccer, play-ball, netball and swimming.

It’s important that our children are happy so we go that extra mile when it’s Easter and Christmas time. We make sure they only have fond memories when they think back of their ‘little days’.

“I very much look forward to welcoming our parents and children back. I would also be delighted meeting new parents and children here at the school, introducing them to our staff and our children. We think our website is beautiful but it’s always nicer meeting in person,” noted Belinda.

With Covid-19 they have had to adapt and change the classroom layouts.
