Minnie celebrates a milestone

Minnie said her family has been a pillar of strength.

CROWN GARDENS – Monday January 27 was a very big day for Minnie Struwing from Annie Burger, being the day Minnie celebrated her 80th birthday.

Minnie is one of the pioneers of the Annie Burger, having lived there for more than 19 years. “God is great to spare my life this far, I’m very lucky. Though some of my friends have passed on, I have lots of friends here. I enjoy my morning and afternoon walks inside the retirement village. I get along with most of the residents,” she said.

She lived in the South for more than 30 years, and previously she lived in Ridgeway with her late husband and two daughters. “My daughters, Loraine and Loreta, are very good to me, also my son-in-law Pieter, who is like a son to me. They all take care of me,” she explained.

This octogenarian said she has two people who are very close to her heart, her two grandchildren, Ruan and Richelle. “I love them,” she noted.

She kept herself busy with knitting, baking cooking, reading bible and story books. Minnie also revealed that at times she is a ‘skelm’. “My daughters don’t know this; I sometimes take a bus together with my friends to town and we often go to Gold Reef City and enjoy ourselves. However, I must say my family has been with me all the way and I thank them for that,” Minnie recounted.
