Vegetables given to NPOs in support of Women’s Month

MMC Phillips met with various non-profit organisations to lend his support on August 18.

City of Joburg MMC for Economic Development councillor Lloyd Phillips collaborated with the Joburg Fresh Produce Market to sponsor deserving NPOs with vegetables in support of Women’s Month. Phillips met with various NPOs to lend his support on August 18.

He partnered with the Joburg Market to give each home vegetable parcels worth R2 000. Phillips will be visiting more NPOs this week to ensure that organisations are provided with some assistance during these challenging times.

New Life Centre and Bona Lesedi Centre for Disabled Adults and Children were among the NPOs that were visited recently and are all based in and around the Midrand area. New Life Centre provides a safe haven for children and young women who are subjected to drug abuse and prostitution at a young age.

“Our aim is to break the circle and assist the children in becoming responsible and respectable human beings of society,” said owner Kgopotso Nakin.

Bona Lesedi Centre for Disabled Adults and Children provides information, advice and practical assistance to persons with disabilities. “Gifting the homes with these vegetables is merely a drop in the ocean. I know it’s not the solution, nor is it enough, but seeing the faces of everyone, especially the children, warms my heart.

“It is remarkable to see what these homes and centres are doing to assist and care for vulnerable women and children. I will continue to assist wherever I can to make a difference,” said Phillips.
