Covid-19 screening and testing at Columbine Shopping Centre

Nurse Nonhlanhla Magwaza from the CoJ, who was testing people in the area, said the procedure has been going very well.

City of Johannesburg region F Health conducted a Covid-19 screening and testing to the elderly and people exhibiting symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, sore throat, loss of smell, loss of taste, diarrhoea and stomach ache.

The testing took place at Columbine Shopping Centre, Ridgeway. Nurse Nonhlanhla Magwaza from the CoJ, who was testing people in the area, said the procedure has been going very well.

“People are brave enough to come and have themselves tested to ensure their own well-being. ?This showed me that people are taking the virus seriously, and they are very concerned about their health.” She told CHRONICLE

how the procedure works when one comes to test and how those tested will receive their results after they have been tested.

“After testing for the coronavirus, we will run the tests through laboratories and send them back directly to the patient. Patients only get their test results back if they are positive. “If they are positive, we need to trace that person and those the positive tested person has been in contact with. We have to go to the household to check everyone who lives with them for us to quickly assist them before it is too late.

“She said sometimes, results take less than 14 days because they now have more people involved in testing others and they have more access to laboratories. She added that if anyone has tested negative for Covid-19 by a viral test, they probably were not infected at the time their sample was collected.

“However, that does not mean you may not get sick. The test result only means that you did not have Covid-19 at the time of testing.”
