Fraudulent withdrawals on Sassa cards

Sassa calls on all beneficiaries who have received their social grants on their new Sassa card to come forward if they have experienced any problems with it.

THE South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) welcomes the concerns raised by beneficiaries claiming they haven’t received their grant on their new Sassa cards.

Beneficiaries experiencing problems with their new Sassa cards should report to their nearest Sassa or South African Post Office outlets to report missing funds.

Sassa urges beneficiaries to go with their identity document and current cards along with a complete affidavit.

The concerns and complaints brought by beneficiaries will be recorded and a receipt will be given to them as proof of query.

Complaints will then be escalated to the fraud unit within Postbank, which will investigate each case and provide a detailed resolution.

After the investigations, beneficiaries will be advised on which route to use.

Benefits of the new Sassa card

• No illegal deductions.

• Three free cash withdrawals at merchants.

• One free cash withdrawal per month from a Post Office branch.

• All purchases (swipes) at merchants are free – no fee charged.

• The new Sassa card is EMV (Eurocard, Mastercard, Visa) compliant. This is the global standard for chip cards. As a result, the card offers vastly better security features.

• The card is accepted at all merchants and ATMs in South Africa that display the Visa sign.

Responsibilities when using your Sassa card

• Use the card responsibly.

• Don’t use the card as security to get a loan from a money lender.

• Don’t falsely state that the card was lost if it was pledged with a money lender to secure a loan.
