Nova Pioneer’s Junior School learners tackle the issue of global warming

Learners want to see change regarding global warming.

NOVA Pioneer’s Junior School learners took their concerns to the assembly point to protest against global warming on March 15.

Learners marched around the school holding placards high chanting reuse, reduce, recycle and handed over a memorandum of their grievances. The protest was monitored by teachers and parents.

Learners presented the memorandum to Ward 54 councillor Isa Dos Santos to consider their wish list.

The list includes business and factories to switch to solar power to power the companies and factories, encouraging people to reuse, reduce and recycle.

STOP: Learners want people to reuse, reduce and recycle.

It also stated government should introduce a law which will restrict all new building and houses to either use solar energy or windmills and introduce measures which will help community combat pollution.

Associate Dean of Students Sameerah Mahomed said learners are joining students from around the globe in protesting for global warming.

“Learners want to see their grievances taken seriously because pollution has been a concern in our society for some time. We hope the ward councillor takes our grievances and escalate it to the relevant people,” said Sameerah.

Dos Santos told learners he will take the memorandum to mayor Herman Mashaba because this is a very important initiative.

PROTEST: Placards were held high as learners demonstrated their frustrations on global warming.

“I’m proud to see learners eager to see a change in their society. When we grew up plans or programmes of fighting global warming weren’t there but these great minds will definitely change the landscape of global warming into good effect,” said Dos Santos.
