Three people have died and two others were injured following a shooting incident in Eikenhof, Johannesburg on Friday, February 08.
At about 7:20pm, five suspects approached the shop owner shooting at him through the burglary gates and also shot at other male customers on the inside of the shop. Three more male customers were shot outside the shop and were all taken to Baragwanath Hospital, where one was pronounced dead on arrival. The owner and the one customer died on the scene inside the shop.
Paramedics from ER24 as well as members of the police attended the scene at a shop along the R550 in Eikenhof.
One person was found with fatal gunshot wounds on the scene. Two others were in a critical condition. While paramedics were treating one of the critically injured men on the scene, his vital signs deteriorated.
Despite their efforts to revive him, he was later declared dead. Another man, also critically injured, was rushed to the hospital. On route to the hospital his vital signs deteriorated. Paramedics were unable to revive him, and he was also declared dead.
Two others were treated for multiple gunshot wounds and rushed to a nearby hospital for further care.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident is not yet known. Police attended the scene and will conduct an investigation.
Communications Officer, Cst Phumi Kraai says a case of business robbery and murder has been opened and will be handled by the Johannesburg Trio Task Team. No arrests have been made currently.
