ON November 21, Eikenhof Women’s Institute held its annual Show Day, where members showcase their talents in, among others, baking, sewing, knitting and crocheting. Plant and flower cuttings were also entered.

The members’ showpieces were judged with Jean Ross coming first, Margaret Whitley second and Sue Atkinson third.

Guest speaker on the day was John Benfield, who spoke about his 15 years of singing with the Welsh Male Voice Choir, with one of his highlights singing at the Royal Albert Hall in London. He’s recently become a member of the Men in Red.

“After my wife died I was looking for something to do and I joined the Welsh Male Voice Choir. It’s been a fantastic experience and we’ve appeared at many celebrations and events around the country. The Men in Red are a very joyous group and we sing songs from the movies,” he said.

Presently John is involved with two projects, one is hoped to raise money for firemen’s widows and children who have lost their source of income and the other for SAPS members’ widows and children.

After the talk, members enjoyed light refreshments.
