Old Mutual Soweto Marathon ready to go

The race details are: Start and finish at FNB stadium, Stadium Avenue, Nasrec on Sunday.

The 25th edition of the Old Mutual Soweto Marathon officially got underway with the opening of the Expo at the FNB Stadium on November 1.

With 30 000 feet expected over the three-day duration, the Expo will be open from 10am to 7pm on Thursday and Friday and then on Saturday from 8.30am to 4pm.

Runners are urged to report early for their respective races. Ample parking is available in and around FNB stadium. Public transport is also an option for the runners to get to the stadium as early as possible.

“We’re once again delighted to welcome this year’s partners, spectators and most importantly runners,” said Soweto Marathon Chairman Sello Khunou.

“The Soweto Marathon Trust in conjunction with the sponsors and partners of The People’s Race promise our best event yet to come on Sunday at 6am. I personally would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable run on the beautiful Soweto streets. Let us celebrate South Africa once more!”

Race Director Danny Blumberg encourages athletes to come early on Sunday morning. “We are expecting more runners and more supporters than ever before, with 30 000 runners participating on Sunday, so please do get here early, get yourself organised and enjoy our race.”

Start times: The standard marathon (42.2km): 6am; The half marathon (21.1km): 6.30am; 10km run: 7am.
