Glitz and Glamour at Stellenbosch, Summer Place

Stellenbosch at Summer Place.

GAUTENG socialites enjoyed the very best the Stellenbosch Winelands have to offer when Sanlam Private Investments (SPI) hosted the fourth Stellenbosch at Summer Place which took place on Wednesday October 30.

This year the Stellenbosch Wine Route raised the bar with a more finely-tuned and focused affair and guests revelled in Stellenbosch’s best wines, sublime food, great music, rare art and edgy catwalk fashion, which the media could visit on the opening evening.

Only the best Stellenbosch winemakers and chefs made the cut for this glitzy showcase and the wines, chosen through a strenuous selection process, were teamed with signature dishes on the evening. This year’s chef line-up included Michael Broughton of Terroir, Bertus Basson of Overture, George Jardine of Jordan Restaurant, Christiaan Campbell of Delaire Graff Estate and Grégory Czarnecki of Waterkloof Restaurant.

In keeping with the event’s pairing theme, the wines shared the spotlight with unique ‘attractions’ throughout the evening. These included pulsating performances by the ever-popular Zamar band, with intimate and soulful solo and duet sessions that harmoniously matched and elevated the various wine varietals.

Other new additions to this year’s event included an arresting fashion show by one of South Africa’s top emerging designers, Joel Janse van Vuuren, with garments paired with various cellar gems. Art aficionados were also able to feast their eyes on rare pieces from South Africa’s oldest and most extensive corporate art collections and engaged in intimate ‘wine meets art’ sessions led by art expert Stefan Hundt, curator of the Sanlam Art Collection.
