Let’s allocate the units properly

Why are these riots suddenly taking place?

This week protests have broken out in South Hills. This area looks like a war zone: people are running for cover and safety as one sees fires in our streets and property being damaged. The SAPS and JMPD have placed resources in the streets of South Hills so that residents are not put in danger.

Why are these riots suddenly taking place? Why did I see a message from a resident threatening ward councillor Faeeza Chame with the message, “Let her be tracked down so that she will know we mean business, RDPs or no peace”. The answer to these questions is simple: the ANC isn’t interested in the welfare of residents, the rule of law and fair processes. Instead, they want to use the South Hills housing development in their game of politics. We haven’t forgotten how the previous ANC city government had promised the community they would be allocated houses without following the law. This is simply illegal.

The DA-led city government will not be involved in the allocation of houses illegally by not following proper processes. This means that, based on legislation, people on the waiting list from 1996 and 1997 qualify for prioritised allocations. This goes against the ANC system of cronyism and ignoring the law so that their narrow political agenda is met. Now that the ANC is in opposition in the city, it is more difficult for them to continue with their illegal practices they had undertaken when they were the city government. Now the ANC refuses to follow the law. Instead, it would rather turn South Hills into a war zone.

This is unacceptable.

The bottom line is that no matter how much chaos the ANC may cause, it will not deter the mayor and his team from sticking to and maintaining law and order. I have liaised with the police and JMPD to ensure that residents are safe and that the small group of disruptors are dealt with within the framework of the law.
