WATCH: Bellavista in serious need of service delivery

Residents wants improved services and title deeds.

RESIDENTS from Turquoise Court in Bellavista are fed up with the lack of service delivery.

Dissatisfied residents are demanding better services for their flats as geysers, sanitation and electricity are a major concern. Residents claim they have been to the councillor’s office to table their concerns and nothing has been done to help them. Therefore the residents now demand answers from mayor Herman Mashaba regarding these issues.

Helen Strfuss, one of the residents of Turquoise Court, said: “Residents are malcontent because geysers are leaking and new geysers have been installed for some residents but not for all. What frustrates residents about the situation is that they have been waiting for eight years for transformation. Everything in this court is a mess. This is the only court in Bellavista that I think is dirty.”

Residents said they have to maintain everything in the court with their own money and strength and most of the people are unemployed. Residents are in desperate need of a visit from Mashaba. They believe that if he could see their living conditions it might defuse the situation. Residents also want their geysers upgraded and old sewerage pipes replaced with new ones.

Ward 55 councillor Rashida Landis told the COURIER that she is aware of the situation but Isak de Lange from the housing department can shed more light on the matter.

The residents don’t want to embark on a strike because they think it will affect their chances of getting service delivery.

“What is also puzzling is the fact that we don’t have title deeds. I have been to the councillors’ office to inquire about title deeds and was told that they will get back to us. How long can we continue living like this? I have an old geyser and when I went to the store to buy a new one I was quoted R2 000 excluding labour and installations. The city should be the one that takes care of these things as we are South African citizens,” said Bernadette Joseph, another resident of Turquoise Court.

The COURIER contacted de Lange from the housing department but his phone was on voicemail.
