IN just under a month, Nkosi’s Haven Village in Alan Manor has been burgled three times; May 12, May 19 and June 7.
In all these occasions several valuables were taken including TVs, desktops, laptops, an ice machine, a blood pressure machine, to name a few.
Gail Johnson, founding director of Nkosi’s Haven said this is taking its toll on the village as their insurance has parted ways with them because of these burglaries.
“They cut through the Trellidor into my office on May 12 around 3am. They were disturbed by sick-bay staff and they left empty-handed.
“Exactly a week later, the same time, they came back to our leisure room where they took two desktops, three TVs, an ice machine, a blood pressure machine, a machine which measures levels of sugar in the blood and bed linen which was donated by the Australians.
“Then on June 7, at about 10.30pm, about eight men went through the newly installed Trellidor in my office and they took three laptops. One of my children was still studying and he saw them on his way to the cottages.
“They took him hostage and asked him about this place. In order for him to save himself, he told them he was just an outsider who was there for the Wi-Fi. He said these were Zulu-speaking old men,” explained Gail.
As a result of all these burglaries, their insurance has cancelled their contract. The village needs donations of all the stolen stuff, security and tips on safety.
“We urge anyone in the community to come to our rescue and help us. We cannot keep dogs on the premises because of the nature of the children we have in the village. Currently, we struggle financially as we do not receive government support and we have people who constantly take from us in this way,” she said.
