Kidnappers remain in custody

The suspects accused of kidnapping Eden Laird remain in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

THE five suspects accused of kidnapping young Eden Laird appeared in Palmridge Magistrate’s Court again on May 15.

They were arrested on May 4 following a successful take down at a scheduled money drop. At the drop, Eden was rescued and safely returned to his parents. Of the suspects present, four are Zimbabwean nationals and one is South African. The domestic worker responsible for taking Eden from his home on May 2 is also standing trial.

The case has been postponed until May 21 as one of the suspects is still in the process of finding private representation and one of the Zimbabwean suspects’ passport has not yet been received.

During the proceedings, the prosecutor alerted the Magistrate that one of the suspects is wanted in connection with an ongoing police investigation in Germiston. This investigation also pertains to allegations of kidnapping.

No bail was set for the suspects and they remain in custody.
