Festival of racing in the Eastern Cape.

PORT ELIZABETH – A special welcome is extended to all supporters of racing in Port Elizabeth. The fabulous Festival of Racing coming up on Friday and Sunday October 25 and 27 is touted as the best weekend of horse racing in the Eastern Cape.

The Listed Racing Association Stakes on Friday coincides with the official launch of the new, eagerly anticipated all weather, Polytrack surface. The main beneficiary on the day is the East Cape Horse Care Unit that does amazing rehabilitation work in the area. The Racing Association is also prominently involved and will be hosting a cocktail party with an auction to raise funds for the Horse Care Unit. Expect spirited bidding with prized items such as Animal Kingdom’s Derby winning saddle cloth and a framed photo of super-horse Frankel, signed by late trainer, Henry Cecil, going under the hammer.

The party continues as Cubana stages another lively bash on Saturday afternoon in the build-up to the R350 000 Betting World Algoa Cup the following day. Entry to the track is free and Bay FM will be on course adding to the atmosphere with entertainment laid on for the whole family. Picnic spots, a safe play area for the children, food stalls, cocktail bar and slick bar service at the Cubana whisky and cigar lounge make up the array of hospitality options as a DJ and dancers maintain the party tempo.

Port Elizabeth is acknowledged to be a friendly and sociable place. That may well be so after the event, but it is unlikely locals will extend such generosity during the hotly contested races as they sportingly try to ward off the invasive challenges of raiding connections. It all shapes up as a combination of good quality racing, a convivial vibe and vital fundraising for an admirable cause. Be part of this weekend’s action and enjoy!
