UJ Hydrogen Innovation car to lead Gandhi Walk

“It is technologically advanced and we are ecstatic to have it confirmed to be showcased at Gandhi Walk.”

THE Gandhi Walk Committee is excited to announce that the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Hydrogen Innovation Society has confirmed its eco race-car for the 33rd Annual Gandhi Walk which will take place on April 15, starting and finishing at the Gandhi Hall, Lenasia.

Walkers and the public can see this eco race-car in full action as it leads walkers and traverses through the streets of Lenasia along parts of the walking route before returning to the finish at Gandhi Hall where it will be on display.

“It is technologically advanced and we are ecstatic to have it confirmed to be showcased at the Gandhi Walk,” says Gandhi Walk committee chairman Amit Parbhucharan.

The UJ Hydrogen Innovation team was established in 2016 by a team which had participated in a renewable energy project that focused on the design and construction of solar vehicles. In 2017 the team participated and achieved first place in the prototype hydrogen category for Shell Eco-Marathon South Africa. This was a large accomplishment for the team of young mechanical engineers as the Eco-marathon is the benchmark eco race and was the first success of many for this dynamic team.

Sister society UJ Civils is also partnering with the Gandhi Walk committee and is the host and community-partner for the #EarthWALK at Gandhi Walk 2018, which will be led by Miss Earth South Africa. Walker numbers are just R30 and those interested in supporting and participating in this fun walk can contact UJ Civils on 079 658 7365.
