What do people think of the VAT hike from 14% to 15%?

We cannot ask the tax payer to pay more everytime the government drops the ball.

A VAT hike by the National Treasury as the best course of action to improve the country’s economic situation has stirred up controversy.

We took to the streets to ask people what they think about the hike from 14 per cent to 15 per cent, which will be implemented from the beginning of April.

Moya Barr “It really doesn’t make much of a difference. It’s one per cent. Instead of the usual 14 per cent, one per cent will be added. There’s really not much difference to your pocket.”

Ayanda Miya “It doesn’t make sense. Why must be pay for the government’s mismanagement of funds? We cannot ask the taxpayer to pay more every time the government drops the ball.”

Flora Staalmeester “Listen… it’s going to kill us. The poor don’t even have enough to survive and now we raise the bar. Why are people not included in matters that concern their pocket?”

Bheki Mashinini “We need to think before we act. This VAT hike is killing our people. It doesn’t make sense to increase VAT in the current economic situation. It’s going to kill us.”
