Woman robbed of R500 000 worth of diamonds in Rosettenville

The four suspects cornered her near the Caltex garage at gunpoint.

A woman was held at gunpoint and robbed of R500 000 worth of diamonds yesterday, March 7, near the Caltex Freshstop on the borders of Rosettenville and Oakdene.

The woman was believed to be followed by the four suspects in two vehicles, a white Audi and a black vehicle. According to the Moffat View SAPS spokesperson captain Jeff Phora, the woman was carrying a handbag with her and noticed the vehicles on Wemmer Pan Road. She overlooked it thinking the vehicles were just community members.

The four suspects cornered her near the Caltex garage. One overtook her and stopped in front of her while the other stopped behind her, blocking her from getting away.

“One of the suspects fired a shot at the passenger side of the car and another pointed a firearm at her and took the woman’s handbag,” said Phora.

Phora advised that a case of armed robbery has been opened at Moffat View SAPS and an investigation is underway. No suspects have been arrested.
