Rietvlei Zoo Farm gets involved in clean-up campaign

It was supported by Pikitup and Okuhle Waste Management, while McDonald's sponsored T-shirts and lunch for all the volunteers.

RIETVLEI Zoo Farm joined a group of other organisations who aim to keep the city of Johannesburg clean.

On October 25, Rietvlei Zoo Farm, represented by executive manager Toni Mackrell, and Empowering You SA, represented by founder Tandi Potgieter, attended the mayoral pledge ceremony and the launch of the MoU between Pikitup, City of Joburg, key stakeholders and partners in Braamfontein.

Potgieter said: “We want to raise awareness for the mayor’s important initiative, A Re Sebetseng – Together, let’s make Johannesburg work towards a cleaner city.

“We signed the A Re Sebetseng pledge to work together for a cleaner city, alongside various dignitaries, including the mayor of Joburg, Herman Mashaba, CMO of McDonald’s, Daniel Padiachy, executive director of Miss Earth South Africa, and Catherine Constantinides, among others.”

In conjunction with Rietvlei Soccer School and Community Hours SA, Rietvlei Zoo Farm and Empowering You SA have pledged to host community-based clean-up campaigns every month.

The first Rietvlei-led clean-up campaign took place on October 31 in Bree Street in the CBD. It was supported by Pikitup and Okuhle Waste Management, while McDonald’s sponsored T-shirts and lunch for all the volunteers.

“We will be focusing on the Johannesburg South area,” added Potgieter.
