“We followed up on information supplied by our rangers. Then, Sarac accompanied by dedicated members of SAPS, Dr Nalisa Rhodes, Hellen Taylor from Rainbow Nation, Ursula Wearing, Tamsyn Venter from Irwin Animals Rescue, Henri Massyn, Brendon Venter from Stratcon Risk and dog lovers worked throughout the night raiding houses.”

He said they rescued several Pit Bulls which were kept in cages and had been chained with heavy industrial chains so they could not escape.

The confiscated dogs were checked and treated by Dr Rhodes. Three suspects were arrested on the spot.

“We are still following some positive leads which might lead to more arrests.”

In the raid on October 15, which was also conducted by Sarac, a few suspects were nabbed and are waiting to appear in court at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.

Selwane said all the work done would not have been possible without the help of the different organisations who went far and beyond to ensure the dogs were rescued.

He asked community members to remember to contribute as their funds had enabled Sarac to continue the work that they do.

Selwane said: “Please support our work by donating or signing up a monthly debit order.”
