18: The CPF Sector 2 Crime Forum and SAPS Domestic Watch training meetings are held at Linhill Soccer Club on the third Wednesday of each month. The next meeting will be held on October 18 from 11am to 12noon. The topic will be house robberies and the next meeting on November 15 will be focusing on holiday season security. 21: There will be a ‘muddy puppy’ food truck market on October 21 and all for a good cause. The market has a 4km muddy obstacle for your dog with lots of entertainment, food and accessory stalls and loads of treats and prizes. Even if you don’t have a dog, you are more than welcome to join the fun run or walk. It costs R150 for the obstacle and R60 for the fun run if you book via quicket.co.za and R180 and R80 on the day. 21 and 22: Everything Kids Expo is taking place on October 21 and 22 at Sha-mani Lodge and Conference Venue, Newmarket in Alberton. It will feature everything to do with pregnancy, babies, children, parents and families. The exhibition will showcase products, services and brands in line with Everything Kids for the eager parent. You will also find a kids zone offering free entertainment. Eat something delicious and attend a live show. Enjoy a musical performance, puppet show, science show and fashion show. 26: Poetry and Paintings will be hosted by the Epic Foundation on October 26. This event for art lovers and poetry enthusiasts will take place at Sha-Mani Lodge and Conference Centre on 30 Doncaster Road, Newmarket in Alberton. Pre-booked tickets sell at R20 per person and if you only pay on the evening of the event, tickets will be available at R50 per person at the door. Viewing of artworks will start between 6.30pm and 7pm and the prices start from as little as R400. Light refreshments will be on offer and there will also be a cash bar. 28: Miniaturists in Gauteng come from all walks of life, all areas and encompass a love of all things small. Miniature Showcase is where artisans showcase their work. A showcase will be held on October 28 from 9am to 12.30noon at the Parkhurst Recreation Centre (corner 13th Street and 5th Avenue). There will be a touch of Christmas with added gifts as well. The Red Windmill Village Market is held every Saturday and Sunday. Get away from the city and spend some time in the country air at our Victorian Village which is only 20 minutes from Southgate. There will be fresh produce, various food stalls, coffee shop, nursery, mushrooms, second-hand book shop, home industry, arts and crafts etc. It is open every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 3pm. It is situated on 104 Main Road, Walkerville. There is also a children’s petting park and over 50 covered stalls are proposed for early next year. New stall holders welcome. Mondays:

Tai chi classes for adults are available at Martial Centre in Winchester Hills. Classes are on Monday and Wednesday from 7pm to 8pm and from 6.30am to 7.30am on Saturdays. This is an ideal form of exercise for over-40s. Tai chi is a martial art but is practised at a slower pace.
